Meet the Team - Robbyn Griffiths

Hi, my name is Robbyn and I’m currently an events coach for PEAK. I initially joined the company in July 2016 as an Apprentice.

Throughout my life, I have been involved in sports as a participant, coach and teacher, leading me to progress my career to working within Physical Education. As a child, I was always experiencing new sports clubs and from a young age I chose dance, until I was injured and didn’t want to risk further damage.

After this, my interest of physical activity was initially sparked during secondary school when I became involved in PE, completing my level 1 in Sports Leadership. On leaving secondary school, I gained a Level 3 apprenticeship in teaching and assisting Primary school PE with PEAK. During term time, I was based in Hetton Lyons Primary School teaching and assisting PE, as well as other areas of the curriculum. This was my first experience in a primary school, in which I developed my confidence in teaching PE as I was able to gain practical experience and a wider understanding of all sports by refining the skills that I had not taught prior to this. Whilst gaining my Level 3, I was awarded the Sunderland College Sports Apprentice of the year 2016/17. I was put forward for my enthusiasm, work ethic, and positive attitude within placement and my written work.

I always tried to go above and beyond to achieve the most of my experience, which was proven a success in gaining me a place at the University of Sunderland. As well as my apprenticeship, I gained a place on AAAsports coaching programme gaining my Level 1 in Women's artistic gymnastics and trampolining coaching qualifications which widened my knowledge of the skill refinements and suitable progressions. I am currently completing my undergraduate degree at the University of Sunderland , studying Physical Education and Sports Coaching, and I am on track to graduate with a First Class Honours Degree.

During this time, I joined the university dance team which I progressed from just a participant to being actively involved within the committee as welfare officer. Throughout my time on the team, I experienced all dancing styles allowing me to widen my knowledge on the techniques and the methods of teaching dance, and was able to find my passion for dance again.

Whilst completing my undergraduate, I took the opportunity to study abroad, which allowed me to experience different teaching environments, as well as widening my experiences in sports, some which I had never been involved in prior to this, such as Softball, Baseball and American Football.

My time as a student has equipped me with the knowledge and confidence to enhance my career within education. In my spare time I enjoy travelling, and spending time with my family and friends. I am so thankful to have the opportunity to work with PEAK again, and hope to pass on my passion of sport just as my teachers and coaches did. I’m Looking forward to being involved in all of the different events coming up soon!
